REP. CABRAL AND SEN. LESSER VISIT NORTH SHORE FOR FOURTH GATEWAY CITIES CAUCUS TOUR
On Monday, October 18th, Rep. Cabral and Senator Eric Lesser visited the North Shore for their fourth Gateway Cities Legislative Caucus tour. The day began with a series of speakers and a walking tour of downtown Salem, then moved to Mills 58 in Peabody for a working lunch, and ended in Lynn with a tour of their waterfront. This is the fourth of multiple tours to gather insight into response and recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic.
In Salem, Caucus members heard from municipal leaders, leaders in higher education, the Salem Chamber of Commerce, and two local restauranteurs on such topics as economic recovery for small businesses and the tourism industry, the role of higher education in economic development, and the economic realities for restauranteurs now and throughout COVID-19. In Peabody, Caucus members visited Mills 58, a revitalized mixed-use space located in a historic building and former leather mill where local businesses are thriving. Caucus members learned more about how public investment is spurring private investment like Mills 58. In Lynn, Caucus members toured Lynn’s beautiful waterfront which is currently undergoing development and revitalization ad learned more about community development projects currently underway in the city, including the rehabilitation of Lynn Heritage State Park, the construction of the waterfront boardwalk, and the capping of the landfill on the Lynnway, among others.
