Tony Cabral thanks New Bedford voters in Standard Times op-ed

In today’s Standard Times, Tony Cabral wrote an opinion piece thanking the voters of New Bedford for their hard work on all of the city’s campaigns.

On Nov. 8, the voters of New Bedford came together at the polls to make their voices heard on the future of our city. Supporters of every candidate in this election, for mayor, for City Council or for School Committee, should be proud of their engagement in our electoral process. Together we have advanced important issues and discussed ideas for moving our city forward.

I want to again congratulate Mayor-elect Jon Mitchell on his victory, and I look forward to working with him to build a better, stronger New Bedford. I also want to thank the thousands of New Bedford citizens who supported my campaign, volunteered their time and cast their ballots on Election Day. This campaign energized people across the city, and I hope that they will now direct that energy toward improving New Bedford.

Standard Times: Cabral can set the course for City’s future

The New Bedford Standard Times endorsed Tony Cabral for Mayor this morning, citing his experience in the legislature and his plan to run an inclusive city government:

Cabral, in his long service to the voters of New Bedford, has consistently played a central role in the transformation of this city into becoming that commercial and cultural center.

…We believe more strongly that Cabral’s movement through this campaign has shown an affinity for collaboration and empathy for those who deserve better, hallmarks of a successful leader. His vision about challenges and opportunities exudes an optimism that could inspire every citizen of New Bedford, and so much of what is needed to bring success to the city depends on its citizens.
